Avaya-Nortel Clears Hurdle; Close Set for Dec. 7

Avaya announced today that it has cleared a major antitrust hurdle by securing approval for its planned acquisition of Nortel under the Hart-Scott-Rodino (HSR) Act. The company said it also received approval from Canadian antitrust regulators as well. The deal could close as early as December 7, according to sources close to Avaya and Nortel.As No Jitter reported here and here, there was at least some speculation that opponents of the deal could raise antitrust objections, but apparently those either never materialized or were dismissed.
