Consultants' Group Rebrands as SCTC

The Society of Telecommunications Consultants, or STC, has renamed itself as the Society of Communications Technology Consultants (SCTC), but fortunately their core mission is the same as when I first met this group almost 20 years ago.

I've known the STC, or SCTC as it's now called, as long as I've known anyone in this business. Within a couple of weeks of my starting at this organization, I attended a reception that our company founder, Jerry Goldstone, put on for the STC during an industry event in Chicago. Jerry wanted to show the importance of the consultants and his gratitude for their help--and those are sentiments our organization still feels today.

The consultants of the SCTC have always been one of most important constituencies for our organization. The No Jitter website and Enterprise Connect conference were, in a previous life (under the aforementioned Jerry Goldstone) Business Communications Review magazine and the VoiceCon conference (which actually had many more names than even I can remember over the years). And the consultants that serve the enterprise communications industry have always been an important base of knowledge, expertise, support, and encouragement for our organization.

The SCTC and its predecessor STC has always maintained the highest standards of integrity and vendor-neutrality, which is critical if you expect to have credibility with an audience of enterprise decision-makers. Their members' uncompromising objectivity and keen analysis has always been a mainstay of the content we've presented in our publications, conferences, and websites.

If you've spent much time on No Jitter, you probably have seen that the STC has done a weekly column, "STC Perspectives." That column will continue under the new name "SCTC Perspectives." If you haven't yet checked out that weekly post, I really encourage you to try and do so. The thing about the consultants is that they have been in the trenches, and their advice is always practical as well as highly-informed and objective.

The name change makes complete sense, for obvious reasons: Communications is about much more than what we think of as "telecom"--it truly is a set of technologies that is in a continual state of change.

I want to congratulate the SCTC on their relaunch, and thank them for the generosity with which they've shared their knowledge of this industry over the years, both with our audience, and with me personally. It's a new look for an old friend, and we're delighted to see it.
