Cool App: The Service Guy
Via Abner Germanow of IDC, here's a cool application that shows something of the potential of Asterisk, Unified Communications and social computing. The application is called The Service Guy, and it lets people call a single referral number and get connected to services they need right away.
You should read the entire post at VOIPinsider, but the gist is that the app is built for what I'd call commodity type of service companies--the kind you used to hunt and peck through the Yellow Pages for, where the first one to pick up the phone is the one who'll (most likely) get your business. The Service Guy post says they feature "cleaning, computer, design, electrician, handyman, landscape, moving, painter, plumber, pool and realtor" numbers.
Not only is this a potential useful app for the customer, but Abner points out in his Twitter feed (that guy can really micro-blog!) that it's also a great application for the business person, who knows when they get the call from the service that it's a live prospect.
