New 3Com CEO to be Based in China
Edgar Masri is out as CEO of 3Com, but the real news is that his replacement, Robert Mao, will be based in China. I think that tells you all you need to know about where 3Com sees much of its future, as I discussed in this post from VoiceCon.
Mao has a long history running China operations for companies including Nortel and Alcatel, and 3Com Chairman Eric Benhamou specifically cited "Bob's bi-cultural background, extensive business experience in Asia and fluency in Mandarin and English [which] offer a rare set of skills that can bridge Chinese and western organizations."
3Com's U.S. operations will be led by new President and COO Ronald Sege, who has a long history in the networking industry here, including as CEO of Ellacoya Networks and a stint at 3Com during the company's heydays in the 90s.
